Carte Blanche launches a new world premiere, RETRO CAT, by esteemed artist and composer Tori Wrånes. It unfolds in an oversized setting. The performance is a co-production between Carte Blanche and Bergen International Festival and premieres on 23 May 2024.

Aloun Marchal is co-choreographer of the performance FORME(S) DE VIE, with Marine Relinger (dramaturge) and Eric Minh Cuong Castaing (Artistic Direction – Shonen Cie).

Together they created the diptyque FORME(S) DE VIE, where the dancers immerse themselves as part of a choreographic experience as human prostheses with performers of limited mobility. The principle of a mutual transfer of body and dance language will expand in this performance to include a memory level remembering movement. Former boxer Kamel Messelleka and dancer Elise Argaud, together with three dancers, follow up on their earlier movement practices. They never abandoned them, but they applied a new meaning to them over the course of the loss of their mobility. Supposedly limited bodies and supposedly virtuosic bodies support and influence each other. They persist in the present, with an eye towards the future, looking back on the past. FORME(S) DE VIE seeks to create a space for intimacy and collective formation that shifts the concept of the "augmented [extended] body". More info and credits here.

Performances: 1-3 Feb 2024, Scene Nationale Essonne, Évry-Courcouronnes (the southern suburbs of Paris, FR).

Andersson Dance's upcoming work is a co-production with Backa Teater in Gothenburg (SE) and will premiere on 17 Feb 2024.

ODYSSÉEN is based on Homer's epic poem about war, love, and longing. A subtle retelling is presented where space and time alternately move and come to a halt. Through both words and movement, everything that happens while the gods watch is explored. About humans being brilliant and fantastic, yet pathetic at the same time. About sometimes needing to get lost to find the way home.

In Örjan Andersson's choreography, the human vulnerability is explored in a magnificent set design – where the boundary between dance and theater dissolves. A generous, playful, and creative chaos about journeying from Troy to Ithaca, from one thing to another – or vice versa. For a full credits list and additional information go here.

KØTER is performing at Takkelloftet at The Royal Opera House in Copenhagen (DK) 17-28 Jan 2024. This contemporary dance performance delves into the Law of Jante, as envisioned by Marina Mascarell and the mongrel community epitomizes a group of narrow-minded individuals propelled by envy and apprehension towards the unfamiliar or new arrivals. They fail to celebrate uniqueness, instead exalting mediocrity and ensuring conformity while oppressing any divergence from the norm.

”KØTER (MONGREL) and the crowd all behave like chased animals attacking each other and seeking nearness. It is strong and touching." Svenska Dagbladet (SE)

One evening, two performances. A joint evening on the 27 Jan 2024 where SWEET by Stina Nyberg is playing at Studioscenen and THE VERY LAST NORTHERN WHITE RHINO by Gaston Core is performing in the Black Box - at Norrlandsoperan in Umeå (SE).

SWEET's story starts with the emergence of a new species, perhaps two hundred thousand years ago. The species does not yet have a name – in fact, nothing does – but it has the capacity to name things. Bit by bit, it spreads to practically every corner of the globe, reassembling the biosphere and the atmosphere on its way. It razes vast forests. It sleeps with its biological cousins and then kills them off. It is, in short, the very asshole of creation.

In SWEET Stina Nyberg departs from the mind-boggling perspective of billions of years in order to talk about her own assholeness. Or perhaps it is the reverse, departing from her own asshole to talk about eternity. In any case, aided by a dance practicing the attention of a bird, she hones in on the details of existence, spanning from the very intimate to the very existential. More info and tickets here.
