Stockholm’s largest solar power installation

The facility is located in Larsboda, in the Farsta district just south of Stockholm. The building is classified as a Miljöbyggnad Guld (Gold-rated Environmental Building) by the Sweden Green Building Council. It features Stockholm’s largest solar power installation, spanning 12,000 square meters and generating approximately 2.4 MW of electrical power.

The roof of the section housing the freezer and workshop is covered with a Mataki Uno Tech Noxout sealing layer. The sealing membrane is coated with titanium dioxide, which, together with the sun’s UV rays, purifies the air and converts nitrogen oxide into harmless nitrates. These nitrates are then absorbed by nearby vegetation as nutrients.

Fully electric deliveries by 2025

Adjacent to the facility is a newly constructed parking garage spanning 9,000 square meters, with 50 charging stations for electric delivery vehicles. The garage is prepared to accommodate 300 electric vehicles for charging in the future. Additionally, charging stations are available for employees’ private electric cars. The goal is to achieve completely electric-powered deliveries by 2025.

Logistics facility of the year 2023

One of the Swedish construction industry’s most prestigious awards is “Årets Bygge” (Construction of the Year), presented by the trade publication, Byggindustrin. In addition to an overall winner, awards are given in six categories, ranging from housing to infrastructure. Furthermore, each project is evaluated based on the working environment, sustainability, time/quality/budget, technology/innovation, and collaboration. Mathem’s logistics centre won the industrial/logistics/retail category this year.

Mathem is not just an ordinary warehouse

The new facility has been designed for maximum efficiency while prioritizing sustainability and enhancing employee well-being. Working in a warehouse is often considered an entry-level position that many employees leave after some time. However, Mathem aims to retain its employees for more extended periods. Right from the entrance, the new facility signals that it is different. Visitors are welcomed by an inviting lobby with a café that resembles a hotel lobby.

Comfort in every room

The facility’s restaurant also defies expectations for a transportation and warehouse building. The environment feels light and airy, thanks to a ceiling height of 4.5 meters. The food served there is excellent. Furthermore, employees can purchase discounted meals in an internal store.
Secondary areas such as restrooms and corridors are often overlooked in workplaces. However, a significant effort has been made to create a pleasant atmosphere with ample light and colour in all these spaces.

An office you’d want to work In

On the second floor, we find the office space, which is activity-based, allowing employees to choose their workplace based on the tasks at hand and whether they need a quiet area or are participating in a meeting. In times when remote work is an option, this work environment, with its cosy atmosphere and subtle colours, encourages employees to work in the office.

Saving time by exercising at work

Mathem’s business model is built on offering a wide range of products, simplifying grocery shopping, and helping customers save time. The same consideration is shown to employees, who have access to groceries on-site and a well-equipped gym that is open 24/7.

A real Santa’s workshop

The heart of this 36,000-square-meter logistics centre is its automated facility. It includes a regular temperature-controlled warehouse and cold storage, frozen storage, and one of Europe’s largest automation systems, handling food orders for groceries, alcohol, tobacco, pharmaceuticals, and various other products.

Daylight and colour in the warehouse

Within the building’s warehouse area, there is a separate break room. It is located along the southeast-facing facade to maximize natural sunlight throughout the day, reflecting the rest of the building with its vibrant colours and abundant light.

It starts with three bags

To streamline the packing process, an advanced automated solution has been implemented. Three paper bags are opened and placed into a box. This innovative solution was developed by Elektroautomatik in Skövde exclusively for this project.

Mathem donates 23 tons of food to Matmissionen

Stockholms Stadsmission (Stockholm City Mission) has launched the concept of Matmissionen (The Food Mission). In these social grocery stores, members can purchase food at lower prices. Goods are donated by the grocery industry to prevent food waste. During the move from their old warehouse in Bromma, Mathem donated a staggering 23 tons of food and other products, marking the largest single donation Matmissionen has ever received. The collaboration with Mathem has been ongoing since 2017.
