Svante Pääbo highlighted the Neanderthal in us

Hours before Svante Pääbo’s Nobel lecture was to begin, a long queue of people had already formed in the biting cold outside Aula Medica on 7 December. Many wanted to listen to Svante Pääbo, Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, talk about the importance of Neanderthals.

A word from the Academic Vice President in the Committee for Higher Education Annika Östman Wernerson

The fall semester and 2022 are coming to a close and I am happy that we this year have been able to meet again on campus, not least in connection with the welcoming of new students and graduation.

As my assignment as the Academic Vice President of Higher Education is ending, I want to take the opportunity to thank all of you students for good cooperation, many exciting meetings, and valuable insights. The years go by fast, especially when we live in a changing world, and you have a fun and challenging assignment. Together with you students, we in the Committee for Higher Education have worked hard to create the best conditions for education here at KI. Continue to get involved! Your voices are needed to ensure the quality of education, especially now that our way of teaching is changing after the pandemic, and we can use more digital resources.

On January 1, Professor Ewa Ehrenborg will take over as the new Academic Vice President of Higher Education and I wish her all the best for her new assignment. I am very honoured that KI's university board has proposed me to the government of Sweden to be elected as President of KI from 1 March 2023. I look forward to my new assignment and continued cooperation with you students and the student unions.

Thank you for this year, this fall semester, and this time. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
