Multi-award-winning choreographer Alexander Ekman is bold, unpredictable and innovative, just like GöteborgsOperans Danskompani. His visually powerful work turns a spotlight on contemporary society’s self-image, often with a humorous twist. Now he creates HAMMER, a work that will feature 31 dancers from Göteborgsoperans Danskompani on stage.

In HAMMER, a harmonious community shares an altruistic lifestyle inspired by the hippie era. They run, play, sing and enjoy life together. But slowly, the community progresses towards the modern age with its ubiquitous surveillance. The group’s behavior becomes increasingly egotistical and individualistic. In the second act, we find ourselves in a different place. Now we meet a group of self-conscious people in lonely bubbles. Eventually, unable to cope with all the false pretenses, they are forced to relinquish their image-conscious facades and return to an altruistic existence. More info and full credits list here.

HAMMER - world premiere 29 Oct 2022, GöteborgsOperan. Runs until 10 Dec 2022.

Tour plan GöteborgsOperans Danskompani:
15-16 Nov 2022; SKID by Damien Jalet & SAABA by Sharon Eyal, La Filature, Mulhouse (FR), 11–13 May 2023; SKID by Damien Jalet & SAABA by Sharon Eyal, Sadler’s Wells, London (UK), 19–21 May 2023; SKID by Damien Jalet & SAABA by Sharon Eyal, National Taichung Theater, Grand Theater, Taichung (Taiwan), 26–27 May 2023; KITES by Damien Jalet & SAABA by Sharon Eyal, LG Arts Center, Seoul (South Korea), 7–10 June 2023; KITES by Damien Jalet & NEW CREATION by Imre & Mare van Opstal, Théâtre de Chaillot, Paris (FR).

Taneli Törmä - LOCATION X will modify the ALIEN project for different communities. In November 2022 eight Finnish dancers will whirl us into a timeless dance!

ALIEN project is part of Location X's examination of how the art of dance and the common aesthetic experiences and realizations can be anchored in a city, in an area, and in the individual human being. Through artistic sensations, the cohesive force is strengthened. It helps to create a stronger experience of belonging and being a part of society. When art finds a home and is anchored, then you will be anchored.

Finnish ALIEN production is co-produced in collaboration with JoJo – Oulu Dance Centre and it will be presented four times on 2-5 Nov 2022 in Valvesali, Oulu (FI). ALIEN is also a Big Pulse Dance Alliance co-production, co-produced by New Baltic Dance (Lithuania) and Dublin Dance Festival (Ireland), co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. THE CORE is an immersive art and video installation spanning across several rooms where the interaction between visual art and dance creates new synergies and interdisciplinary expressions, to the choreography of Guro Nagelhus Schia and Vebjørn Sundby, and new music by Bernt Isak Wærstad.

When Fredrik Tjærandsen presented his bachelor's collection at Central Saint Martins in 2019, which consisted of balloon-like creations that turned into dresses on the catwalk, he spellbound the entire fashion world. The collection immediately went viral, and Tjærandsen was featured in several leading magazines such as Vogue, W Magazine, WWD, and i-D Magazine. The following year, he was listed as one of the most promising young creative people of 2020 by the fashion magazine Dazed & Confused. More info here.

A dysfunctional birthday party, earplugs, leftover tarp, a rake and some 50 other specific everyday objects share space with three dancers trying to dance a very precise version of THE RITE OF SPRING. Choreographed by Norrdans’ artistic director Martin Forsberg, THE RITE OF SPRING creates a macro cosmos within a tiny space. Scale and volume and vibrations take center stage in this beast of creation. Here, the beautiful and the sublime, the magical and grotesque, exist side by side. And the dance comes almost dangerously close. The grand tones of composer Stravinsky manifested through a small and explosive ensemble, in the purest rebellious playfulness. This piece finds its ways through both schools and public venues in the north of Sweden and in Stockholm (SE).

School premiere 14 Oct 2022, in Härnösand (SE). Public premiere 26 Oct 2022 at Norrlandsoperan in Umeå (SE). More info and full credits list here.

"We dream, but we have no clue about what this is yet. Practicing superpowers, real and fictional. They were dancing with crystal skin reflecting light all over the room. That was nice. Another day we practiced empathy. Thoughts of how certain powers, or perhaps enhanced skills, can create alternative structures and affect the way we function as a group are present. But everything we know now will change. So be patient, more will come. Think of us as we are trying to crack this code."
Choreographer: BamBam Frost. For full credits list and additional information go here.

Performance dates: 10-13 Nov 2022, MDT, Stockholm (SE).
