The no 5 of the highrise buildings, closest to the square Sergels Torg in the center of Stockholm, has finally received a major boost after decades of more or less decay. At the end of 2021, SPACE – a cultural center for a digital generation – was inaugurated. At 7,500 sqm, the venue combines the most important aspects in digital culture – gaming, music, content creation and digital know-how. This newsletter takes us on a tour in SPACE and features what the location has to offer. If you want to see more details, click on the images and they will open in a larger format. Enjoy!

The world’s largest gaming center

SPACE is the world’s largest permanent computer gaming hall with over 400 gaming stations. Visitors sign in with their BankID in the Space Portal app to book a station or a Bootcamp room equipped with a 75" LED screen and five PCs for PS5 or Xbox. Via the app, it is also possible to report technical problems and order food and drinks to their station or to the game room’s own refrigerator.

Children under the age of 13 must be registered with SPACE by a legal guardian. Safety is important and anyone violating the extensive house rules receives a warning, three and the account is blocked, and they be permanently banned from the premises

Below is the AFK Café (Away From Keys) which is adjacent to the gaming halls.

Cutting edge gaming stations

The computers are equipped with intel i7 processors, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 graphic cards, a 27" monitor, keyboards and headphones from Hyper X as well as comfortable gaming chairs from José Mourinho’s favorite brand, Secret Lab.

Via the SPACE Launcher, visitors have easy access to their favorite games and apps. Here they can add friends, make future bookings, follow their avatar, and take part in the SPACE loyalty program.

SPACE is open daily 11 AM - 23 PM, Game Night - 07 AM on Fridays and Saturdays.

Gaming for seniors in the SPACE Club

Two floors below Sergels Torg there is the SPACE Club for seniors aged 20 and above. There are 100 stations and 15 bootcamps for PC and console games, as well as a large lounge area with a bar.

This was the former music club, Underground, where U2 played their first gig in Stockholm in 1981. Through a glazing in the floor, the club’s logo painted on the concrete is still visible.

SPACE Arena with the world’s largest 8K screen

Next to the gaming halls is the SPACE Arena, shaped like an amphitheater. Here, visitors can watch their team compete against other teams, host hybrid events, or enjoy large-scale live entertainment, concerts, game launches, events, and conferences. The arena has 550 seats and the world’s largest 8K LED screen at 95 sqm!

Studio for live broadcasts

At with Sergels Torg there is a live studio. The round “commentator booth” with glass walls has contact both with the arena and with the area outside. The room is equipped for podcasts, interviews, and competition jury panels.

SPACE Community for co-working and development

The four upper levels house a range of activities in a creative digital environment. SPACE Community is a location for co-working where users can rent a work space, meeting place and office facility – either temporarily or over a longer period of time.

Avicii Experience

Next to the entrance to the gaming halls is a tribute museum dedicated to Tim “Avicii” Bergling. This interactive exhibition brings us closer to the life of artist Avicii and the person Tim Bergling – from his childhood room where it all began to the studio in Los Angeles where his greatest hits were created.

OH! A pop-up museum for selfies

Milajki is a brand for the kind of experiences we create together with our mobile cameras. On a visit to SPACE, currently visitors can find the experience, Milajki Style FactOH!ry – a fantasy world where visitors dress up and explore 15 different interactive environments including photo booths for taking creative selfies.

Here you can take your friends and get wild on everything from pastel princess tulle skirts, glittery mermaids, unicorns and wigs in all the colors of the rainbow. Milajki Stockholm is open every day until July 24, so don’t miss the chance!

SPACE Market

In the store on the ground floor, the physical and digital worlds are connected. Here you will find a special pop-up selection for gaming and music, a series of exclusive Avicii products and branded SPACE products. Of course, there is also an online store.

The Fat Cat

Of course, the SPACE concept also includes food. The Fat Cat brasserie is found on the ground floor facing Sergels Torg. In gaming culture, Japanese and Korean barbecue is often featured so the restaurant has an Asian theme. With an entrance from around the corner on Mäster Samuelsgatan there is also the Skinny Kitten, an Asian-style café and deli with take away offerings.

Welcome!

At the entrance, visitors are greeted by a pulsating abstract slideshow of 320 monitors in the ceiling and a bit down on the wall. Together, the screens weigh 3 tons.
