Helena Franzén’s new dance performance I SEE YOU will have its premiere on 8 Apr 2022 at Lokstallarna in Karlshamn (SE) and tour 3-23 Oct 2022 i the county of Blekinge Kronoberg (SE).

I SEE YOU is about identity. My identity. Your identity. Our identity. Their identity. The word ”identity” comes from the Latin word ”identitas” which means 'same' or 'the same'. With this as a starting point, the dancers embark on an identity journey together with their audience which is about the interaction between us. The place is a Catwalk, a place to watch and to be watched. A place where we can create our identity. Show up and be seen. Who do you see when you see me? Who do I see when I see you? In I SEE YOU, the audience will join in on a journey through dance where we examine how the I is created in relation to the other. The dancers meet themselves through each other and their audience. Directly after the performance, the audience is invited to a workshop with the dancers.

For four weeks in April, 20 participants in Helsingborg (SE) will meet choreographer Rachel Tess, sound designer Ulrich Ruchlinski, and four dancers from Skånes Dansteater. Together, they create and rehearse a dance performance that is shown outdoors in Drottninghög, at a spot chosen by the participants. The dance project TIME LOOPS dives deep into six different locations in Skåne in the south of Sweden during the spring and summer of 2022. TIME LOOPS wants to stop the time through dance, sound, and song. Investigate community, place, and time in relation to people, routines, and landmarks in six residential areas in Skåne. Choreographed by Ioannis Mandafounis, IF ONLY I KNEW is created especially for the library space. Dancers reflect the stories that surround them, themes and motifs of text and literature interpreted through bodies and spectator minds. What meaning does dance bring to words? What insights does the melding of stories told through text and movement yield?

THUNDERSTRUCK departs from the 19th-century phenomena of touring electricity shows. At a time when electricity was still a scientific novelty, it was displayed in public performances as acts of magic. Today, a contemporary heir to the electricity magic show is the Tesla coil performance, making use of the spectacular sound and light effects the coil produces, but often performed in hyper-masculinized, technique-masturbatory, and rock'n'roll-fetishistic shows.

In THUNDERSTRUCK, Stina Nyberg returns to a time when the artist and scientist believed in transforming the forces of nature into the forces that propel society, harnessing natural energy for crafting nearly magical devices. THUNDERSTRUCK pairs effective technical innovations with a long-term research on science and magic. More info, credits, and tickets here.

Performances THUNDERSTRUCK: 1-2 Apr 2022, Edison-scenen, Dansehallerne, Copenhagen (DK).

It's time to revisit this classic story in choreographer Örjan Andersson's interpretation! EFTER HAMLET (After Hamlet) premieres 20 Apr 2022 at Regionteater Väst, Borås (SE).

Difficulty, youthful frustration, and existential anxiety are the themes in Shakespeare's classic HAMLET, but how does that translate to suit children between the ages of 6 and 9? The answer is that it is simply a matter of being human and that the general human issues are just as suitable for children as for adults. With imagination, humor, body, and words, the great emotions and the young person's despair in the face of the world's madness are examined in this dance performance from Regionteater Väst. On stage, we see four dancers and an actor. On tour this spring!

CRAWL CRAWL CRAWL is a newly written staged choral work for twelve singers, from Aarhus based ENSEMBLE EDGE, in a swimming pool. Convoi Exceptionnel dives into the welfare state, class differences, and inequality. The singers become a flock striving for meaning, cohesion, or protest, and through the polyphony of the choir, the theme of the work emerges. The audience sits close to the pool edge, where the singers in the water, wearing specially designed costumes, create fluid choreographic images. This is a unique meeting between music, choreography, and architecture. Concept, stage direction by Jon R. Skulberg. For more info, credits and tickets go here.
Production: Convoi Exceptionnel. Co-production: Bora Bora, Passage Festival, Dansehallerne. Supported by: Danish Arts Foundation, Augustinus Foundation, William Demant Foundation, The Obel Family Foundation, Wilhelm Hansen Foundation, Danish Actors` Accusation, City of Aarhus.

FOR EVER FOUR SEASONS, performing at Ice Hot - Nordic Dance Platform in Helsinki (FI) in June, is a musical, choreographic, and existentialist work that insists on slowness, as an act of resistance against our rapidly accelerating world. Skulberg and Convoi Exceptionnel want to give the audience a sensuous experience, which both pleases and disturbs while posing the fundamental question: What is the role of mankind in the Anthropocene era? More info here.
Co-production: Bora Bora, Dansehallerne. Supported by: Danish Arts Foundation, City of Aarhus, Wilhelm Hansen Foundation, Wanås Konst.

Gunilla Heilborn’s new work 37 HOURS AND 3 MINUTES premiered on 9 Feb 2022 at Elverket / Dansens Hus in Stockholm (SE).The piece takes as its starting point Tolstoy's masterpiece Anna Karenina, but it's as far from a dramatization of the novel you can come, rather it's a humorous take on what literature can do for us. 37 HOURS AND 3 MINUTES is the time it takes for an average reader to read the whole novel. Using interviews made by two young students at the University of Moscow about Tolstoy and his influence on people today, a research trip to Tolstoy's estate Yasnya Polyana and a lot of reading in books by and about Tolstoy, Russian history, and politics, Heilborn strings together a funny but also, in its light way, a profound performance.

The piece talks about Russia in the 19th century, but at one point it also describes the feeling of being in Moscow the exact dates Russia invaded Crimea in 2014. Two weeks after the premiere Russia started the war and we woke up to a new scary world. Now everything in the piece has another depth. Talking about and dealing with Russian topics has become very difficult, but not less important.

37 HOURS AND 3 MINUTES was originally performed in Swedish but is now being translated into English. More information concerning upcoming performance dates will follow!

"The novel is this used as a springboard to an intelligent and philosophical thoughtful discussion where scenes and movements do not necessarily lead to where they could have led, and branch out into different tracks. Much like Tolstoy's storytelling technique. Heilborn thus keeps in touch with her source of inspiration. But just like Tolstoy's very complex novel, the performance is completely impossible to make a short summary of. However, it is very, very funny." Aftonbladet (SE)

photo: TITANAS

TITANAS is a meeting between Sol Picó, Natsuki, and Charlotta Öfverholm, three dancers and choreographers with completely different influences and paths that now converge at the same point on the road. The purest, wildest, and most genuine energies and forces emerge, identities fade, skins are exchanged and a dialogue begins between that multiplicity of entities that struggle within us to excel. Wrapped in the music of Judith Farrés and the voices of a choir of twelve women, this triad of warrior goddesses, decidedly powerful, euphoric and optimistic, is reborn creating a new ideal, utopian and fantastic universe, with no rules to fulfill or archetypes in which to fit in. Watch a trailer here.

Performances: 18-22 May 2022, Palau de les Arts, Valencia (ES).

Charlotta Öfverholm is also performing in LE SYNDROME DE PÉNÉLOPE by the French dance company NGC25 on 25 Mar 2022 in Sarzeau (FR). More info here.

GOLDBERG VARIATIONS - TERNARY PATTERNS FOR INSOMNIA is remounted in Stockholm in June 2022. The work for 11 musicians and 5 dancers opened in 2015 at Dansens Hus in Stockholm. Now the work returns to Stockholm with performances at Folkoperan 2-3 Jun 2022!

Play the opening of the Goldberg Variations to someone today, and usually, they all have heard it – whether in its original form, one of the many transcribed and transposed versions, or in a completely different setting in a totally different genre. It started life as a study for harpsichord; a simple aria, and a set of 30 variations where the aria functions as a hard drive for the whole work. 2015, Örjan Andersson (Andersson Dance) and Jonathan Morton (Scottish Ensemble) added their own. 11 musicians and 5 dancers perform Goldberg Variations as equal partners – both choreographed, the result is a singular experience of musician and dancer performing as one.

Production: Andersson Dance, Scottish Ensemble & Nordberg Movement. Co-production: Andersson Dance, Scottish Ensemble, Regionteatern Blekinge Kronoberg & Riksteatern 2015. Made possible with support by The Swedish Arts Council, Stockholm Stad, Region Stockholm, Musikverket, and Creative Scotland. Additional school performance presented in collaboration with DANSISTAN.
