Students receive an introduction to research at the KI Summer School in Medical Research

Every summer, undergraduate students at KI can enrol in Karolinska Institutet’s Summer School in Medical Research (KISS), a research-preparatory school. Previous participant Victor Tollemar and supervisor Rachael Sugars both agree that it is a great introduction to a researcher’s world for students who are interested in research.

New measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 to come into effect from 8 December 2021

  • Teaching continues on campus and is not covered by the recommendation on working from home.
  • Getting vaccinated is the best way to avoid serious illness and the spread of COVID-19. KI encourages students and staff to get vaccinated. Go to 1177.se for information on how you can get vaccinated.
  • KI emphasizes the importance of staying at home when you get symptoms and follow the recommendation from the Swedish Public Health Agency.
  • From December 1, the government introduced vaccination certificates for public gatherings indoors with over 100 people. Teaching at a university is not a public gathering and is not covered by the new regulations on vaccination certificates.

A word from the Academic Vice President of Higher Education Annika Östman Wernerson

The autumn semester is coming to an end, and I want to take the opportunity to thank you for your efforts during this semester.

During the autumn, we have returned to campus teaching and had long-awaited opportunities to meet each other. But the pandemic is not over yet and it is important to continuously stay updated on KI’s website about current recommendations due to covid-19.

As we return to more traditional campus teaching, it is important that we take advantage of the digital development that has taken place during the period of distance learning. One of the lessons is the many benefits of working more digitally. There are many tools and methods that teachers can continue to use and we see a development of teaching in various forms. The learning outcome for students should be the focus and since we have many different programs and courses, I am convinced that our teachers, together with the course and program manager, will determine the appropriate form of teaching.

During the transition to and from distance learning, it has been extremely valuable to hear your views and I want to extend a big thank you to everyone who got involved and acted as student representatives during this turbulent time. Continue to get involved in the student union and participate in evaluations of the teaching, for example by answering course evaluations. Your input is extremely important in the work of designing the education of the future.

Thank you for this year and this semester. I wish you all a Happy Holiday, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!
