What happens to family life when a family member needs additional support? The special topic of this newsletter is positive functioning in families. The family is probably the environment that has the largest impact on children's development and everyday functioning. Although having a child in need of additional support or having parents in need of additional support can affect family functioning negatively, this does not always seem to be the case.

United Nations Children's Fund in Armenia has allocated CHILD-researchers 89800 USD
 
CHILD-researchers has been allocated 89800 USD (711000 SEK) for the project Improving access to services and participation of persons with disabilities on the chonceptual framework of UNCRPD and ICF – Armenia. The overall goal of the project is to support a local team with the development of the methods and procedures needed to improve access to services and participation for persons identified with disabilities in Armenia. Read more

Ten Swedish and international students are presently writing their undergraduate or postgraduate theses within different CHILD-research projects. Johanne Svantorp and Hannah Lohne Enersen from Institutt for Spesialpedagogikk at Oslo University in Norway, are two of those students. PhD-student Laura Darcy has successfully passed through her final seminar before her dissertation defense. She will defend her doctoral thesis "The everyday life of young children with cancer" on June 5, 2015, in Borås. Read more

PhD-student Lena Olsson successfully passed through her part time seminar. Her research project concerns families with children with mild intellectual disabilities and the aim is to examine the families’ needs for support and service and the extent to which needs are met. Read more
 
Fifty CHILD-articles published during 2014

New Book Release: To become a Preschool teacher
 
Professors Eva Björck-Åkesson and Mats Granlund along with 21 other Scandinavian professors write on the subject of becoming a preschool teacher. The book is both a practical guide and a scientific introduction to the profession of being a preschool teacher.
