Landis Fields from Industrial Light & Magic, known for the special effects in Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens and The Mandalorian, gave a presentation at NVIDIA GTC earlier this year. There he showed how he used HP Z Captis to create the short film A New Dawn in just a couple of weeks.

CPU Refresh! Did you know that the Z6 G5 A can now be shipped with up to the AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ PRO 9995WX which recently scored 222K points in Cinebench R23 and broke 8 new world records?
HP had a Processor Refresh this fall, and in short the Z6 G5 A can be shipped with the 7000 series until around March next year, while the 9000 series has been available since August.
Both generations offer options with 12, 16, 24, 32, 64 or 96 cores.

There have also been new processors from Intel, and they are available in the rack version of the Z4, among other things.
The Intel Xeon 25 series is on its way and will be valid until September 2027, while the 24 series is quickly being phased out. In the 25 series, we find options from 8 to 26 cores.
What are the real advantages of having the workstation in the server room instead of on or under the desk? This article from cgchannel is an interesting read, as it compares a consumer-based workstation with a GeForce RTX 4090 card with a rack-mounted Z4 equipped with RTX 6000 Ada.
Of course, this is not an exact comparison since the processors are different, but the conclusion is that the user experience is not at all worse on the remote-controlled machine. Higher security, lower power consumption, less noise and greater flexibility are other advantages – so this is definitely something to consider.ReviewNote. Now that the ZBook Ultra G1a and Z2 Mini G1a have been on the market for a while, users have had time to get their hands on the machines. So what can we actually do with a fully-equipped AMD Strix Halo processor?
The large American camera store B&G has done a hands-on review of the ZBook Ultra G1a. They write a lot about everyday use and are particularly impressed by how much power it packs into such a light and elegant PC.
Level1Techs goes deeper on their YouTube channel and says that this machine feels like something five years ahead of its time. They also note that the system can be shipped with Ubuntu, and that when it comes to local LLMs, performance is significantly better on Linux than on Windows 11. For those who want to try it out for themselves, Level1Linux shows how to install Linux on the ZBook Ultra G1a.
If you really want to see someone go in-depth into what is possible with a Ryzen AI MAX 395 and run proper tests, you should watch Donato Capitella's video. He installs Linux on an HP Z2 G1a Mini Workstation, runs a bunch of big models from Hugging Face, and gets surprisingly impressive results.
