The choreographic debut of Taneli Törmä, the new artistic director of Dance Theatre Minimi, brings two impactful solo performances to the stage: STILL / DANCING / BODY and TRUST OFF. Törmä, who spent 17 years abroad as a freelance dance artist before returning to Finland and taking on the role of Minimi’s artistic director in Kuopio, brings his unique vision and extensive experience to this evening. The pieces will be at Kuopio City Theatre on 25-27 Feb 2025.

STILL / DANCING / BODY is a powerful contemporary dance piece where 60-year-old Danish dancer Birgitte Skands tells her life story through movement. The piece, which premiered at Dansehallerne in Copenhagen in October 2024, will now be performed in Finland for the first time.

The second piece of the evening, TRUST OFF, delves into the many facets of falling – both physical and emotional. How does one navigate life’s unpredictability and overcome setbacks that knock them down repeatedly? How can we learn to accept the inevitability of falling and find ways to endure it? Read more here.

INSIDE QUEENS is a fabulous opera for the security of your inner realm – premiering at the Folkoperan in Stockholm (SE) on 23-24 April 2025.

Join us on an odyssey into magnificent inner and outer queens in a majestic research expedition led by internationally renowned director and performance artist Charlotte Engelkes. Scenes and songs written by Marina Steinmo are tied together by a fairy tale of a family gaining two queens in a campaign to bring some joy and glamour to every subject’s home. However, these queens turn out to be totally chaotic, and they are later joined by vengeful, forgotten, and even mummified queens who need a new space to rule. Newly written music by composer Willi Bopp with elements of Donizetti’s opera Maria Stuarda and a string quintet.

Charlotte Engelkes, opera singer Maja Frydén, circus artist Julietta Birkeland, and dancer Tobias Ulvfebrand take us on a journey and let us meet both possible and impossible royalty in a tribute to the queen figure in history, fiction, and perhaps in ourselves. All this in a newly composed musical stage work held together by a fairy tale and an exploration of different aspects of responsibility. More info here. Tickets here.

Can reality be choreographed? Can reality dictate the choreography? Norrdans’ ten dancers share the stage with ten local residents, forming a unique ensemble that explores the concepts of crowds and power.
The crowd is a force in itself, capable of both support and destruction. In CROWDS & POWER, Martin Forsberg creates a choreographic field that stretches between the human mass and the actions that reveal the scales of power – between human connection and the dynamics of both the grand and the small.

In CROWDS & POWER, we experience set and costume design by David Gehrt and composed music by Anna-Sóley Tryggvadóttir. The work is enriched by Mads Lindegaard's lighting design. CROWDS & POWER is bombastic, monumental, and sentimentally intimate.

The world premiere takes place on 14 Mar 2025 in Härnösand (SE), followed by a tour across northern Sweden, concluding with two shows at Dansens Hus in Stockholm (SE) on 9-10 May 2025.

This contemporary dance performance delves into the Law of Jante, and the mongrel community epitomizes a group of narrow-minded individuals propelled by envy and apprehension towards the unfamiliar or new arrivals. They fail to celebrate uniqueness, instead exalting mediocrity and ensuring conformity while oppressing any divergence from the norm. Read more here.

Viktor Fröjd's upcoming new piece, TRACKS, takes its name from a song, a path, or a track. A path to get lost on and tracks to follow in the search for "the right way-the right track". But also the needle that follows the track on the vinyl record, the sounds made by grains of dust, creating that recognizable crunch. A reminder of the pre-digital world.

Premier: 26-27 Mar 2025, Dansstationen/Palladium in Malmö (SE)

With a sharp and curious eye, the narrator sets off on an eccentric adventure, riding the underworld’s blue line toward the far-flung Sombrero galaxy. Dancing in dialogue with the unknown—or what feels almost familiar. Embark on a wild jungle safari, whirl through a cosmic dance, and trace the Milky Way’s intricate patterns in a knitting project that never seems to end—think of a hand mixer with a lifetime guarantee.

Visp is a collection of short stories—or musings—that capture movement and challenge both mind and body. Visp (English:Whisk) is released in bookstores on 6 Mar 2025. More info on Bookstrap Publishing site here.

In a raw exploration of digital algorithms, body ideals, and the invisible communication shaping our reality, three gay men dive into their self-images by looking at what we all look at too much.

Through the reflections of our screens, the choreography digs into a mass production of the material that constantly overwhelms us. From this, a dance is born – three beings baptized in their seemingly random scrolling, abandoned in a place where the only thing they can do is practice their own language. By wallowing in their desires and inhibitions, these images and feelings are explored in a series of scenes that are as fragile as they are intense.

HAUNTED DESIRES premieres at Inkonst in Malmö (SE) on 7-8 Mar 2025.

AVATARED - THE DJ IS DANCING at the closing night of the Festival Artdanthé, Théatre de Vanves, Paris (FR) on 28 Mar 2025.

Avatared is a party in the form of a hosted dancefloor with happenings. Pounding bass, electronic music, flowing lights, a dancefloor, synchronized bodies, and an elevated DJ booth. The atmosphere of festival and club glamor is highlighted in the dance show AVATARED, although a slightly disturbing and curiously liberating detail has been added: the DJ dances.

In AVATARED, the DJ has been given a new life. For one hour, two professional dancers have become the DJ's avatars. They begin by interspersing vinyl spins in the DJ booth with choreographed micro-performances. Dance solos on the podium are choreographed to entice the audience to the dance floor while the avatars gradually abandon the DJ booth and jump on the dance floor to join and fire up the dancing.
