Can reality be choreographed? Can reality dictate the choreography? Norrdans’ ten dancers share the stage with ten local residents, forming a unique ensemble that explores the concepts of crowds and power.
The crowd is a force in itself, capable of both support and destruction. In CROWDS & POWER, Martin Forsberg creates a choreographic field that stretches between the human mass and the actions that reveal the scales of power – between human connection and the dynamics of both the grand and the small.

In CROWDS & POWER, we experience set and costume design by David Gehrt and composed music by Anna-Sóley Tryggvadóttir. The work is enriched by Mads Lindegaard's lighting design. CROWDS & POWER is bombastic, monumental, and sentimentally intimate.

The world premiere takes place on 14 Mar 2025 in Härnösand (SE), followed by a tour across northern Sweden, concluding with two shows at Dansens Hus in Stockholm (SE) on 9-10 May 2025.

The premiere of DETACHED FROM OTHERS is fast approaching. Artistic director and choreographer Jon R. Skulberg of Convoi Exceptionnel eagerly anticipates unveiling this new work, which delves into the state of loneliness and its choreographic and musical expressions.

Loneliness is a pressing societal issue associated with increased mental health challenges and higher mortality rates, yet it also holds the potential for solace in self-chosen solitude. With only one performer on stage — the remarkable dancer Kenzo Kusuda — and a single lighted candle, accompanied by organ music, the existential experience of loneliness is brought to life. This thematic duality forms the foundation of the performance.

The company Convoi Exceptionnel looks forward to welcoming you to the world premiere of their newest creation, DETACHED FROM OTHERS. Read more here.

Shows: 25-28 Feb and 1 Mar 2025, Dansehallerne, Copenhagen (DK)

Charlotte Engelkes will make a new work in the spring of 2025. DROTTNING INUTI (INSIDE QUEENS) has its premiere and will play from 23-24 April 2025 at Folkoperan in Stockholm (SE). The libretto is written by Marina Steinmo and Charlotte Engelkes, with newly written music composed by Willi Bopp, with elements of Donizetti’s opera Maria Stuarda.

DROTTNING INUTI (INSIDE QUEENS) is a musical stage work in 11 tableaus inspired by queens from different eras, cultures, and art forms. The subject matter of DROTTNING INUTI (INSIDE QUEENS) ranges from the physical exterior to the emotional inner states that exist in all of us. By crawling into queens from both history and fiction, we can bring out the inner queen that can hide in all of us. Longing and responsibility for our full power. On stage are the four opera, circus, theater, and musical artists Maja Frydén, Julietta Birkeland, Tobias Ulfvebrand, and Charlotte Engelkes, as well as a string quintet. The social media´s mirroring effect multiplies our desires and inhibitions, directing our attention to a place where we succumb to our own becoming. In Björn Säfsten's new work HAUNTED DESIRES, three white gay men delve into their own self-image, looking into the things they look at too much. Focusing on their screens and our seemingly hysterical obsession with coveted material and bodies. Here, the choreography delves into, infiltrates, and transforms the material that is constantly washing over us. From this, a dance is born, and three beings are baptized in arbitrary algorithms and abandoned in a place where all they can do is practice their own language.

HAUNTED DESIRES premieres at Inkonst in Malmö (SE) on 7-8 Mar 2025.

AVATARED is a party in the form of a hosted dancefloor with happenings. Pounding bass, electronic music, flowing lights, dancefloor, synchronized bodies, and an elevated DJ booth. The atmosphere of festival and club glamor is highlighted in the dance show AVATARED, although a slightly disturbing and curiously liberating detail has been added: the DJ dances.

In the conceptual dance show AVATARED, the DJ has been given new life. For one hour, two professional dancers have become the DJ's avatars. They begin by interspersing vinyl spins in the DJ booth with choreographed micro-performances. Dance solos on the podium are choreographed to entice the audience to the dance floor while the avatars gradually abandon the DJ booth and jump on the dance floor to join and fire up the dancing. The audience is drawn into the rhythm and invited to feel the freedoms of movement and presence – get together, get moving, get avatared!

Performance date: 19 Jan 2025, Röda Sten Konsthall in Göteborg (SE)

Viktor Fröjd's upcoming new piece, TRACKS, takes its name from a song, a path, or a track. A path to get lost on and tracks to follow in the search for "the right way-the right track". But also the needle that follows the track on the vinyl record, the sounds made by grains of dust, creating that recognizable crunch. A reminder of the pre-digital world.

Premier: 26-27 Mar 2025, Dansstationen/Palladium in Malmö (SE)

INTELLECTUS LIVE is a public format of the artistic research project Intellectus LAB developed during Anna Öberg's 1- year artistic residency at the Södertörn University in 2023. An ongoing research that takes its starting point in Öbergs interest in how artistic ideas can arise and expand in groups – and in encounters with an audience. Through that, INTELLECTUS LIVE works as an ongoing platform for encounters and aesthetic discussions between art forms and fields of knowledge that rarely otherwise meet.

Here, artisan and ceramicist Mårten Medbo and sound artist Elize Arvefjord come together. The result is a choreographic installation based on the encounter between sound art and clay, in close exchange with the audience visiting the work.

6 Feb 2025, INTELLECTUS LIVE: MEDBO OCH ARVEFJORD, Konst och Kultur, Eskilstuna Konsthall (SE)
