Choreographer and director Carl Knif takes on Swedish author and Nobel Prize winner Harry Martinson's classical epic poem Aniara. The poem turns into a dance and theatre experience in Skånes Dansteater's and Moomsteatern's first collaboration. In Aniara, the Earth is being destroyed by the way people live their lives. Aniara is the name of one of the spaceships traveling back and forth from Earth to the refugees' new home planet. Aniara collides with a smaller planet and starts to drift. What happens to the passengers and staff on Aniara? What do they feel? How do they try to save themselves? What do they wish for most of all?
ANIARA premieres at Skånes Dansteater, Malmö (SE) on 18 Oct 2024, and will be performed as a regular evening performance, school performances (gymnasium) and as a Relaxed Performance. For full credits list and additional information go here.

DRIP TEKHNE is choreographer Adam Linder’s new creation in collaboration with Danish Dance Theatre. This performance explores the evolution of bodies into technical vessels for dance, pushing the boundaries of contemporary movement. Structured in four parts, DRIP TEKHNE depicts primal bodies transforming into hybrid mechanical forms, socialized individuals, and ultimately a unified dancing community. With a set designed by architect Deniz Celtek, featuring flexible modules that shift and evolve throughout the performance, this journey redefines choreography as a visceral and conceptual experience. Having worked with iconic venues like MOMA New York, Linder continues to blend the intuitive with the experimental, delivering a powerful expression of art and innovation.
Premiere on 19 Oct 2024, with additional performances on 21 and 24 Oct 2024 at Musikhuset in Aarhus (DK). More info and tickets here.

As 2024 comes to a close, Jo Strømgren Kompani is excited to share the final highlights of the season:
The Spain tour on 15-23 Nov 2024 includes stops in Vitoria, Logroño, Pamplona, and La Coruña, with a special appearance at Madrid’s 42 Festival de Otoño. THE MINISTRY OF UNRESOLVED FEELINGS, blending humor and empathy, reflects on the universal struggle to manage unresolved emotions.
The company performs GONE at Schizofrenidagene 2024 in Stavanger (NO) on 7 Nov 2024, Scandinavia’s largest mental health conference. This piece delves into the emotional journey between sadness and nostalgia.
The new children’s show, THE SUBSTITUTE, will show at the Showbox - Performing Arts Festival for Young Audiences in Oslo on 28 Nov 2024. This delightfully wacky performance pays tribute to all the invisible “losers” of society—those who work quietly to find their place and contribute something meaningful.
The company is thrilled to make its Monaco debut, performing MADE IN OSLO on 18 Dec 2024, a triple bill of Jo Strømgren’s works originally created for Oslo Danse Ensemble, on invitation by Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo. This performance captures various facets of contemporary life through three energetic choreographies - GONE (2015), THE RING (2014), and KVART (2007) - highlighting the humor, nostalgia, and intimacy in modern urban existence.

STILL / DANCING / BODY is a dance performance created by Taneli Törmä for Birgitte Skands. STILL / DANCING / BODY performance brings lived experience, life itself, the in-between, philosophical thoughts, stillness, memories, and bodily experiences into a choreographic space.
STILL / DANCING / BODY is co-produced by Dansehallerne (DK) and Dance Theatre Minimi (FIN).
STILL / DANCING / BODY will be the final production of LOCATION X, as Taneli will begin his new role as the artistic director of Dance Theatre Minimi in Kuopio, Finland.

All life begins within the body, in that mysterious space between the first heartbeat and the first breath. Or?
In DOLLY, OR/ELLER explores this profound moment of coming into being through the lens of three iconic figures – Dolly the sheep, Dolly Parton, and the classic doll. Each of these Dollys reflects a different facet of creation: the clone, the artist, and the imaginary. Through dance, Dolly questions the nature of originality, subjectivity, and transformation. How do we define the notion of becoming in a world where life can be manufactured, reinvented, or dreamed into existence? Performed by Madeleine Lindh, Anja Arnquist, and Sam Huczkowski, this piece moves with precision, grace, and curiosity. Join us for a performance that pushes the boundaries of dance and thought. Dolly is not just a show; it's an invitation to contemplate the art of becoming and the becoming of art. For dates and more info - check MDT.

DEADLOCK is an essay on trans-morphic dancing, a flight into the unruly. A reckless, utterly precise choreography, serially ordered, performatively embodied. Singular in kind, manyfold in subtext. Restrained, flickering light of a disappearance. At once death-wish and evidence of life. A dance. Immersed in the aesthetic thrill of a passage that unleashes the senses.
Performing dates: 6, 10, 11, 13, 17, 18, 20 Dec 2024 at 7:00 p.m. and 7, 14, 21 Dec 2024 at 4:00 p.m.
Location: The Hall, Mårbackagatan 11 (Hus O), Farsta, Stockholm (SE). For tickets please go here. SKVALLRET (THE GOSSIP) offers a choreographed city tour from the perspective of a dog, following soft paw prints through Pihlajamäki’s history. By focusing on seemingly insignificant details like trash heaps and pee spots, it shifts attention from the grand to the intimate. After all, most things in the world are lickable if you give them a chance. First developed for Sundsvall, Sweden, in 2020, Moving in November invited Stina Nyberg to create a Helsinki version of SKVALLRET (THE GOSSIP) specifically for the festival and the area of Pihlajamäki, 14 -17 Nov 2024. The walk is performed by Stina Nyberg and dogs from a local agility club. It takes approximately 50 minutes and dogs are welcome to join.

Bambam Frost opens the work WHEN I JUMP THE GROUND SHAKES for children aged 5-8 years at and in co-production with Dansens Hus in Stockholm (SE) on 16 Oct 2024. More info here. Inspired by science fiction, three dancers explore how the ability to empathize and care can be trained and developed into what we call superpowers. ”I am practicing to become a superhero. I have realized that there is something inside of me, in my body, that can transform me. I can't fly, I can't run very fast or climb walls yet. But when that special thing – that which exists inside me – is activated, it's like I feel everything all the time. When I dance, waves appear in the water and when I jump, the ground shakes.”

Convoi Exceptionnel is in the production process of the coming performance DETACHED FROM OTHERS, a choreographic and musical experience about the lonely body. The theatre lamps will be switched off and the stage will be lit up by candlelights. The basic elements of the work are analog and acoustic - a body, a flame, and the sound of a church organ.
At the moment the production focus is on the soundscape, which will go into recording this October. The music is a newly composed work for organ by the composer Lil Lacy. A church organ can be described as a lonely instrument, as it is built for the space in which it resonates. Like a voice belonging to a body. It is rare for organs to play with other organs beyond themselves. It is locked to a single room, this one room's acoustics and resonance for its entire life. Convoi Exceptionnel invites this sound onto the stage in an encounter with dancer Kenzo Kusuda. DETACHED FROM OTHERS premiers in February 2025 in Copenhagen (DK).
